Not really. The final texture is comparable in roughness to new commercial climbing holds. The diamonds just stay sharp for longer. Anyway, you shouldn't be dry firing off hangboards regularly enough to cause skin damage.

Yes! For hard training sessions we always use chalk for maximum friction. But the advantage of the diamond texture plate is that it's usable for easier training without chalk - so you can sneak in little sessions anywhere! On the couch watching TV, or in the office are some of our favourite places to edge.
