Edgemaster Junior (Unreleased prototype)
Edgemaster Junior is a 20 mm portable hangboard precision CNC machined from a solid block of magnesium alloy and finished using a Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) process.
At just 88 grams, it is unusually light for a fully machined metal hangboard. Magnesium has roughly two thirds the density of aluminium and around one quarter the density of steel, giving the Junior a distinctly lightweight, aerospace inspired construction.
The Junior features an integrated eyelet for direct carabiner attachment, keeping the design compact and eliminating the need for a separate cord attachment.
The magnesium is finished using Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO), a process that creates a hard, ceramic-like oxide layer on the surface of the metal. The resulting finish has a distinctive matte, slightly chalky or “dusty” appearance. This is a characteristic of the MAO surface rather than dirt or residue.
Only two prototypes of this design were ever made. I kept one, and this is the spare.

Prototype + finish notes
This is a genuine development prototype rather than a production product. While the prototype has been tested, there is no long-term wear data for this particular combination of magnesium alloy and MAO finish. The surface may change, polish or wear with use over time, and exactly how it will age is unknown.
Because only two were made and the design is no longer being produced, this product cannot be replaced if it is damaged or worn out.
The MAO finish naturally has a dry, matte and slightly dusty/chalky appearance. Some variation in the finish is normal and part of the process.
The included carabiner was used during testing of this prototype and therefore has a small amount of cosmetic wear.
